Employee Engagement
Quantum conducted research into the issue of 'Engagement' (Organisational Commitment) throughout Australia and New Zealand during 2009-2010. Responses were received from 21,618 employees from 264 organisations in 11 countries. Results indicated that the conditions under which employees become engaged and want to stay with an organisation have changed. A 'Psychological Contract' has replaced the traditional employment contract between employer and employee that typically featured the exchange of employment security for loyalty. The new 'Psychological Contract' focuses on organisations meeting the qualitative (non-financial) needs of employees, i.e. personal values and employment flexibility. Organisations that are able to find the right mix of values, attitudes, terms and benefits for their employees will be more successful in securing 'Personal Affective Commitment' by giving them a compelling reason to stay. Quantum's findings indicate this 'mix' will not be the same for every organisation, as each has its own unique key drivers of 'Engagement'.
